Exploring why Black Girls are overlooked in monetization opportunities

Black girls are not receiving the recognition they truly deserve for their remarkable creativity or significant achievements on social media platforms. Despite their immense contributions in these spaces, they often find themselves overshadowed and overlooked when it comes to monetization opportunities that could reward their hard work and innovative content. This lack of acknowledgment not only undermines their efforts but also perpetuates a cycle of invisibility within the digital landscape.

This disparity highlights a broader issue of representation and equity across social media spaces, where the voices and talents of Black girls are not given the same weight as those of their peers. This and related issues are central to Dr. Zari A. Taylor's research. Dr. Taylor is a critical cultural studies scholar interested in the interplay of digital and popular culture. Specifically, she explores the relationship between race, beauty, social/ traditional media, celebrity culture, and the creator economy. Dr. Taylor is currently a Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor at New York University affiliated with the Center for Faculty Advancement (CFA) and Alliance for Public Interest Technology (NYUA-PIT).
